Carnivores are a group of mammals who need meat to sustain, but there are exceptions. The term can be confusing because not all carnivores live soley on meat and some do not live on meat at all. What they do have in common are the presence of carnassial teeth. These animals are on top of the food chain. There are about 278 species, of which about 26 can be found in the Lowveld.
